What Is PTSD?
PTSD occurs when the mind and body remain in a prolonged state of stress following exposure to trauma. Such traumatic experiences may include military combat, natural disasters, serious accidents, medical emergencies, violent assaults, abuse, or other threatening situations.
While most people experience distress following trauma, many gradually recover over time. However, for individuals with PTSD, symptoms persist and significantly interfere with daily life, emotional well-being, relationships, and work functioning (National Center for PTSD, 2021).
